art olender

Art is an American and has been living in the Netherlands since 1997. He and his Dutch wife have 3 bi-lingual sons. Art has degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science and originally moved to the Netherlands to establish and run the international activities of an American call center software company. In 2009, after 23 years in that business, he decided to take his career in a completely different direction. He started doing volunteer work at a primary school in Abcoude, where his sons were enrolled, and gave English lessons to children in small groups, using games, songs, drama, and reading stories to keep the children motivated. The enthusiastic reactions of the kids and their parents convinced Art to establish Fun Learning English, together with Sarah Bevis.

Fun Learning English is a small initiative teaching children between the ages of 4 and 12 English, as well as adults who need help with professional and medical English. We are often looking for energetic, Native English speakers who enjoy working with young children or adults to join our team.

For children, the opportunities are after-school group lessons, private lessons and teaching in primary schools during the day.

The after-school class sizes are small, maximum size 8 children, and are normally conducted at primary schools after school is out.  The private lessons are often at the student’s home.  The lessons at the primary schools during the school day may have larger numbers of students in the classes.

We play games, read stories, do theatre, dance and sing with the children to help them learn English.  A lesson normally lasts 45 minutes.

We have lots of lesson material, but we urge you to use your own experience in preparing what you will teach.

If you are interested in exploring this further please feel free to contact us.
